<term-sec>
Terms and Definitions Container/Section
Container element for the detailed terminology definitions in a standards document, which may include TBX-based terminology sections, natural language <term-display> elements that describe term and definition material, or both.
Remarks
<term-sec> is NOT a Section: In spite of its English name, a <term-sec> is not a “Section” within a standards document (like the element
). A <term-sec> is a container element that holds TBX entries and/or <term-display> terms. A <term-sec> should always be used inside a narrative section (
) that has a title (such as “Terms and definitions”) and a @sec-type attribute with a value such as “terms” (
).
Term Section ”Title“: Note that the <term-sec> element has no <title> element among its children. On display, the heading at the top of the <term-sec> is taken from either:
- the first term (<tbx_term>) in the enclosed <tbx:termEntry>, or
- the <title> child of the enclosed <term-display> element.
Best Practice: Where to Put a <term-sec>: Although <term-sec> is allowed directly inside many elements, such as <body> and <back>, these are historical remnants and not considered to be Best Practice. The element <term-sec> should be restricted to terminology sections in the front matter or body. That is, a <term-sec> should only be used inside
elements that contain terms and definitions or recursively inside another <term-sec>.
