<full> Full Title

Contains the full title of the standard. Normally, this contains all the introductory, main, and complementary titles and subtitles in a precombined form, possibly with punctuation and spacing added between title components. The full title is a good interchange option, to communicate the title of a standard.

Usage/Remarks

When there is no additional text beyond what is contained in the various component titles (<intro>, <main>, and <compl>), this element may seem slightly redundant. But it is Best Practice always to provide a full title for searching, display convenience, and to handle special cases, even when the full title could in principle be constructed from the various component titles.
ISO Note
For an ISO standard, the current full title is currently constructed from all of the introductory, main, and complementary titles, in that order, with each title separated from the others by a space, an em-dash and a space, a semicolon, or similar separator.
Related Elements
Tagging the Title of a Standard: The title of a standard may be tagged as a whole (<full>) or divided into introductory, main, and complementary components:
  • Introductory: The optional introductory title(s) are the initial part(s) of a standard’s title, which typically indicate the broad context of the standard or of a sponsoring group or provide a stock phrase such as “Standard Specification for”. Each introductory title may contain only text or include its own label and subtitles.
  • Main: The optional main portion of the standard’s title, which typically indicates the principal subject of the standard. A main title may contain only text or include its own label and subtitles.
  • Complementary: The optional complementary title(s) are the final part(s) of a standard’s title. Complementary titles follow the <main> title and typically provide details concerning which particular aspect of the general topic is treated by the standards document. Each complementary title may contain only text or include its own label and subtitles.
